3D piece, prototype

During class we were asked to create a prototype of our 3D piece. Since my mannequin hadn't arrived I decided to make a smaller version out of air-drying clay:

After creating the mannequin and basing it on previous sketches, I created the patterns for the prototype on paper:

I traced these designs from regular paper onto newspaper and a more stiff paper, to check which one would be easier to do. After cutting it, I placed the pattern on the mannequin:

Creating this prototype helped me realise that I needed to simplify the amount of "spikes" on the upper part of the design. As well, I realised that the material I intended to use for the final piece ( vinyl) would be very challenging since it would behave like the paper; too stiff and not flexible enough to mould around a tridimensional figure like the mannequin.
