Trend Forecast

Even though I have done trend research for my last project, the theme of this term is completely different. For this reason, I need to do a new trend forecast, focusing on a more elegant, high fashion style rather than the streetwear I designed for Pull&Bear. Here are the conclusions I reached, through a list:

  • Sturdy boots
  • Accessorized oversized cuts
  • Crossbody bags
  • Tube tops
  • Fuzzy bucket hats
  • Playful proportions ( supersized dresses)
  • Prints ( maximalist ones)
  • Baggy jeans
  • Transparencies
  • Silver and golden accessories and details
  • Lack of gender norms
  • Use of new technologies for digital design and 3D printing
This list was deeply based on Shangai's fashion week, and it has bits from Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo as well. I decided to do research on these fashion weeks in specific because I found it more appropriate for my futuristic, avant-garde project.

I was especially attracted to Vogue's post "Why it's time to ditch comfort this spring" since I will be inspiring my collection on Danila India's designs, which are the opposite of comfortable. This post reassured me on my path since these past few collections have been revolving around being comfortable because of lockdown and the Covid situation as a whole. Here is an extract from the fashion report:

"However, that was then—and this is now. Spring is officially here, and as the vaccines are being rolled out, it seems like it’s officially time to think about reemerging into the world again. And more importantly, it’s time to start dressing up again. I certainly have missed flexing a statement outfit and wearing something uncomfortable, just for the sake of the look. Beauty is pain, after all! And it turns out, I’m not alone in this sentiment."

After this research and my colour forecast as well, I believe I am ready to start my first sketches, which I will show in another post.

  1. Is that not the same intro paragraph as the last post...?
This is good, look forward to how you incorporate these ideas into your sketches. You make a good point too about coming out of the lockdown - there is more optimism around than there has been for a while and I think you can reflect that in your designs, either through the use of colour in combination with your Ultimate black theme or through the use of avant-garde silhouettes.
