Major Project Title: Liquid Black

 

Progression Route: Fashion Buying with Design

 

Describe your major project objective using the SMART acronym

I will create a fashion collection of 4 2d outcomes and 1 3d outcome during 9 weeks, creating as well a fashion buying flipbook, for it to be relevant to my progression route.

Why have you chosen to do this project?

I chose the Ultimate Black theme because it was the most attractive to me since using a small colour palette is a challenge for me because I enjoy bright, eye-catching designs.

Who are you researching for this project? Please list at least three artists and/or designers and you additional research on your concept

Davina India will be my main inspiration, but I will research Dior as well, specifically its pleated designs, along with other haute couture brands like Chanel and Alexander McQueen

What techniques/skills are you developing/learning for this project?

Pleating and sewing for the 3D piece, flipbook design and design tools for the 2D pieces.

What do you expect the final outcome of the project to be?

A consistent collection with extensive research about sewing and pleating techniques well as background for the collection (creation of a new brand or adapting the designs to a pre-existing brand).

What have you completed so far for this project?

Initial research ( mood boards and ideas generation) and studies of concepts and elements.

What do you think will be the issues/drawbacks to the project?

The 3D design will be the biggest challenge since I currently have no materials or sewing machine. As well I do not have as much time as I would like to.

What is your timescale considering that this has to be completed by Week 10?

Week Three: Initial ideas generation and studies Week Four: Research on designers and processes  Week Five: Sketches, refining the designs  Week Six: Focusing on the 3D design, exploring techniques and materials Week Seven: Fashion buying research, continuing with the 3D design Week Eight: Wix ui testing, creating the flipbook and the final designs Week Nine: Fixing the web, posting everything on the web

What resources or materials will you need for this project?

A 3D software to design the 3D model, materials for the actual piece ( fabric, thread, needle, etc.), Indesign or similar for the flipbook, Krita for the 2D designs and Wix for the web. As well, internet for the research and Blogger for the posts
