Notes on Art Lecture: Georgia O'Keefe
On our last lecture we learnt about Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was a photographer interested in the technical aspects of this art, and he had a noticeable evolution over the years. At first, he focused more on the technical aspects of photography, and he was part of the Association's publication Camera Work. He focused on the shapes and lines, as well as the steerage. Later on, he wanted to move away from the pastoral, focusing on skyscrapers, aeroplanes and the growing population.
Georgia O'Keeffe, his wife, was an American painter that formed part of the impressionist movement and be of the main and first female painters that had her work exhibited in museums. Her most famous paintings were her flowers, with very bright colours and sexual connotations.
I enjoyed the lecture since I have a natural inclination towards learning and even though I knew about Georgia O'Keeffe I did not know as much about her husband. Even if I do not know much about photography, I found it interesting. As well I love her paintings and admire her a lot because of them and because of all she was able to achieve as a woman living in her times.
Good that you enjoyed this - do think about how these lectures can inform your own work
