More research for the major project

I decided to investigate more about Teuta Matoshi's style and what makes it so defined and attractive. That's when I found this article about the designer and her style by O magazine:

"Ses créations de haute couture rayonnent vers couleurs douces et papillons: des applications qui montent depuis un bustier jusqu’au col des mannequins, dans un tourbillon d’élégance et de magie. Des pierres brillantes et des paillettes, étincellent sur les étoffes: ça devient un véritable enchantement. De plus, l’emploi d’applications en dentelle 3D revalorise le classique en clé moderne. Un style unique qui habille les femmes telles que des princesses"

According to this extract, what makes her style so unique is the "high-end designs that shine with sweet colours and butterflies with whirls of elegance and magic, as well as the application of 3d laces revigorating the classic into modern." As a conclusion, they add that the style dresses women as princesses.

As far as I have seen most of her designs are made of tulle, as I had guessed by the looks, but she also uses taffeta, organza, lace and velvet. To learn how to illustrate these kinds of fabric I did a quick youtube search to look for lessons and I found that Zoe Hang, one of my favourite content creators and also a college professor, made a video on how to draw pieces like these. The title of the video is Fashion Illustration Tutorial: Sheer Fabrics and these are the main points I've learnt from it:

  • These fabrics are always translucent
  • Rendering must be done from underneath to the surface
  • Sheers are darker every time they are folded
  • Sheers are always "sheerest" when they are closer to the skin
  • The skin under the fabric must be rendered, but it's better to make it lighter than the exposed skin
Some of the fabrics that she mentions are tulle (my personal favourite and the one I will be using the most), tulle, silk chiffon, cotton batiste, lawn, gauze, lace, velvet burnout, clear vinyl and sports mesh.
I will be studying the differences between these fabrics to determine which I might use, but I believe that my main fabric will be tulle since it's the most used one by Teuta and also because I already know its texture and properties.

Also, the following drawings are some tattoos I've designed not so long ago and that I will probably use for this collection:
They were done in Krita and my intention is to fill the document with more of them and then use them for this project-
